Editor’s Note: for this Best Wedding Videographers in Austin Spotlight, we had the pleasure of interviewing Christopher, from Top5 Productions.
Where have you been featured?
Let’s see… I remember being written about in D Magazine many years ago. I’m certain that there have been many more but I never really paid much attention. As a multiple- time Couple’s Choice Award Winner (ahem), I’d say with 99 percent certainty that I’ve been featured on Wedding Wire in some capacity. My work has been featured at a number of conventions across America as well.
Why do couples love working with you?
If this is true…and according to my client testimonials it is, I think couples love working with me because I make them feel at ease. I’ve realized that most people do not like a camera in their faces. Knowing this, I’ve started encouraging couples to live their lives like I’m not in the room. I’ve also realized that this direction is difficult to follow when my lens is three feet away, staring them right in the face. I have been so inconspicuous that a number of brides have told me that they did not remember seeing me once the wedding ceremony began. Thanks to my zoom lens, wireless mics, and hidden Go Pro, no matter how far and out-of-the-way I might be, I’m still able to capture everything.
What do you love most about filming weddings?
I enjoy filming the well-wishes from family and friends. This is always entertaining because I never know what will be said or what’s going to happen. I also enjoy this part of my wedding documentaries because I believe it’s a very impactful and meaningful part of the wedding videos that I produce. I always think about the joy and nostalgia a couple will feel when on their 20th wedding anniversary, they re-watch their wedding video and get to see and hear what loved ones had to say to them on their wedding day. I’ve been told that the well-wishes section of my wedding videos are very heartwarming and emotional because often times, it provides the couple with a chance to hear from a loved one who is no longer with us anymore.
How did you get started?
I became interested in filmmaking after being assigned a video project for my high school speech class. It was at that time that I realized that I had a creative side that had been “untapped” until that moment. I started making “no-budget” movies for fun and won a few awards in small competitions at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin. I hadn’t thought about filming weddings until my cousin asked me to film his. I was hesitant, but he assured me that I could do it. At that point in my life, if you were to tell me that less than 7 years later that I would be flown across America shooting video while being paid handsomely for it…I would NOT have believed you.
What 3 words best describe your company?
Creative, Honest, and Accommodating.
What budget range do you cater to?
I have two price packages that cater to couples with varying wedding budgets. I’m also willing to custom-make a price package that best suits a couples wants and needs.
What is your favorite part of the wedding day to film?
I love getting to know the bride and groom. One of my favorite things to do is to film each one separately while asking them the same questions about how they met, where they went on their first date, how did the proposal go down, and what do they love about each other, etc. Once I edit the responses together, the final product is usually entertaining and oftentimes emotional for the bride and groom.
Top 5 managed to capture all of the nuances of my daughter’s wedding. The bride and groom have unique personalities and styles and definitely wanted to capture that in the wedding videography. Also, we had some family members who were not able to attend so it was also important that the videography make those who could not attend feel like they were there. Top 5 pulled it off! It was perfect. Truly. Chris Chamberlain is a perfectionist and isn’t that what you want for your daughter’s big day!
I cannot be more thrilled with the work performed by Top5 Productions! We got married over 10 years ago and upon receiving our original wedding video (from another videographer) we were devastated to find the poor quality of work (no sound, no edits, choppy video, just everything wrong.). We watched it once, cried that our special day had not been captured, and placed the video in a shelf where it remained unwatched for 10 years. A couple of months ago I brought the video to Top5 to see what could be salvaged, and a week later we received back the most beautiful wedding video one could imagine! A genuine piece of art! We were completely blown away by the quality of work (and timeliness) performed by Top5! We now can share our special day with our kids and enjoy remembrances for years to come! I would recommend Top5 to anyone looking for a wedding videographer or to someone like me who is looking for video editing/restoration of old videos. My only regret is that I wasn’t aware of Top5 ten years ago so that I could have booked him for our Wedding!
I hadn’t planned on hiring a videographer for my wedding, as I thought photos would be enough. I was completely wrong. I am so glad that I hired Top5. The end product was a gorgeous video that captures all of the most important moments of our big day, plus a collection of video messages from our guests wishing us the best, telling stories of memories together, etc. I couldn’t have dreamt up a more perfect keepsake from the best day of my life. Chris is so subtle, you don’t even realize when he is recording, so everyone seems natural and happy in the video (instead of stiff and awkward, like many people feel in front of the camera). Plus, when I got the pictures back from my photographers, I was disappointed to find that there weren’t very many pictures of guests. Luckily, Chris came through and had film time of every person that was there.
All in all, on the day of your event, Chris will be professional, focused, and unobtrusive, and then afterward, in editing, his remarkable creative talent will take over and he will create something worth cherishing forever. He truly goes above and beyond. Chris is obviously a perfectionist because his end result is nothing short of perfection. I am so thrilled to have this video! Thank you, Top5 Productions!
