I provide creative photography coverage for all wedding sizes. There is nothing that makes me happier than after shooting a couple’s wedding than getting the call a couple years later to do newborn photos…..and then family photos.
Editor’s Note: for this Best Philadelphia Wedding Photographers Spotlight, we had the pleasure of interviewing David, from McShea Photography.

Why do couples love working with you?
I try to make the formals as fun and as quick as possible. I want to get some good quality photos, but I always say that my goal is to get the couple and the bridal party back into the party as soon as possible. I’ve been called a wedding ninja and I’ve also had couples tell me at the end of the reception that they didn’t even know I was there. I try to avoid being intrusive and I never make the day about me. I avoid telling people to stop what they are doing to look at me and smile. I keep things as candid as possible throughout the day.
What do you love most about being a wedding photographer?
Being able to be creative at my job is one of the great passions about what I get to do day in and day out. In my past corporate life, it was a monotonous routine and after doing that for 10 years I had nothing to show for it. Right from the start of doing wedding photography, I had so many memorable moments and had too many photos to count that I was so proud of, knowing the happiness it brought to others.
How did you get started?
My background is in chemical engineering. I went to school and worked for a chemical company for 10 years. Near the end, I was helping a friend out by being a 2nd photographer and once my job relocated, I knew I needed a change. With the support of my wife, I decided to start my own company and have not looked back since. If you told me 10 years ago that I would be doing this as my full-time business, I would have told you that you were crazy.
What 3 words best describe your wedding photography style?
Fun, not stressful.
What budget range do you cater to?
After getting married, myself, 9 years ago, it drove us crazy at how expensive it cost. I believe that photography is one of the most important pieces of the wedding day but I don’t believe you have to spend $4-5k just to get some good pictures of yourselves. This business pays the bills but I always try to cater to all budgets, including the smaller ones. I keep my base package as minimal as possible and let couples build to their budget comfort.
Dave was recommended to us by multiple couples who had amazing experiences. Our experience was beyond amazing. From the first day we met to talk about our wedding up until the actual wedding day, Dave was extremely easy to work with and great to be around for the entire wedding party…
Dave is an absolutely amazing photographer and captured our wedding day so beautifully. From the moment we first met with Dave, we knew he would be right for us because he was easy going, professional, and had great attention to detail. On the wedding day, he was a pleasure to work with and had a way of making us all feel relaxed and comfortable instead of stiff and posed. We couldn’t be happier with how the photos turned out. He really captured true emotion and through the photos, we can relive everything about the wedding day. I would not hesitate to recommend Dave to anyone looking for an amazing, down to earth, and incredibly talented photographer. Thank you, Dave!
Dave is an absolutely wonderful photographer, a great guy to work with. He captured our day perfectly through a combination of posed and candid shots. I am amazed at how many great shots he was able to capture by himself; looking at the pictures you would swear we had more than one photographer. He was professional throughout the day and got us our pictures very quickly. Hiring Dave was a great decision!
