I cater to couples who want to let go and be fully themselves during their wedding day, so we can create together a photo story that reflects who they are and what their day is all about.
Editor’s Note: for this Best Weddings in New York Spotlight, we had the pleasure of interviewing New York wedding photographer Carole, from Carole Cohen Photography.
Where have you been featured?
I have had weddings featured on Junebug, Borrowed and Blue, Offbeat Bride, WeddingWire, and Simple Elope. A wedding I shot in Paris last September is going to be featured in a few weeks on Queen for a Day, a wonderful French blog, and I am very excited about that!
Why do couples love working with you?
I have learned to adapt to every situation and think fast while staying calm, and this is important to keep a good vibe during the day. I am also very easy-going and can strike a conversation with anyone; I often find myself alone with the couple or their family during the day, so being able to make people feel comfortable around me is a must!
What do you love most about being a wedding photographer?
I am constantly looking for something new and exciting to do. Shooting weddings allows me to meet new people every week, discover new places every week, and keep the excitement going. I am a very passionate person, and weddings feed my need for challenges.
How did you get started?
My story is very random, which makes me believe that shooting weddings was my destiny. I came to the USA in 2009 to work in marketing, and after a few miserable months in a big firm on Time Square, I quit and decided to build my own business. I became a French tutor to pay my rent and my gear, and after two years I started working as a second shooter for a photographer in Red Banks, NJ, that I had met randomly in New York. A year later I made my own website. I booked my first wedding a few months after that, in 2012, and the rest is history.
What 3 words best describe your wedding photography style?
Real, playful, creative.
What budget range do you cater to?
I love to shoot small weddings, so I offer an A la Carte option at $400 an hour. My packages start at $2800 for 6 hours and go up to $4400 for the whole shebang: album, second shooter, engagement session…
Carole is a magic-maker! Her work is so gorgeous–she captures simple moments in a way that is so much more than your run-of-the-mill wedding photographer. She’s young, fun, and has a wonderful, comfortable presence. We LOVED working with her. She’s also super flexible in terms of hours. Our photos came out SO DAMN BEAUTIFUL. She’s a rockstar!

Carole is all kinds of awesome. One of the biggest points of contention between us in planning our wedding was whether or not to have a photographer. One of us is extremely camera shy and the other one of us has a masters degree in photography (marriage is compromise, right? ;-)) We looked at dozens of photographers. As soon as we saw Carole’s work we both finally agreed. Carole is a fantastically talented photographer and a beautiful, creative, calm person to be around on your wedding day. We both really wanted a candid style photographer. Carole captured all the candid moments with elegantly crafted compositions and her unique energy. The venue was challenging to cover, and Carole managed to seamlessly shoot everything. She was incredibly flexible and went above and beyond. Our photos are just stunning and it’s been so fun for us to see not only the gorgeous shots of us and our venue and friends but all the little bits of the evening we missed. We are so grateful we found her!
