Editor’s Note: for this Best Wedding Photographers in Chicago Spotlight, we had the pleasure of interviewing Jenn, from Jennifer Jackson Photography.

Where have you been featured?

I am an international award winning photographer and have been featured on popular wedding blogs such as Style Me Pretty, The Knot, and Wedding Chicks. Last year I was chosen as a Grace Ormonde preferred vendor and am excited to partner with Chicago Wedding Style magazine this year. I still exhibit my photography in galleries too.

Why do couples love working with you?

A common theme in the reviews I receive is about how fun it was to be around me the entire day; how I put them at ease. You are with your photographer the entire day and this is something I do not take lightly. I am always myself and on your wedding day, you get that girl; warm, nerdy, helpful, and artsy. Many of my brides have become close friends and I love that.

What do you love most about being a wedding photographer?

I love spending time with awesome people on one of the most important days of their lives. I LOVE love and telling stories through my photography and for me, there is no better environment to do that in.

How did you get started?

I started taking photos when I was 13. I shot 35mm film and then graduated to medium and large format film. I have my BFA and MA in Fine Art Photography and more than a decade ago I became a fine art wedding photographer [digital and film]. I haven’t looked back since and it has been an amazing ride.

What budget range do you cater to?

I like to think I cater more to cool, fun-loving people that appreciate artistic photography. But if I had to put it in terms of budget I’d say I tend to cater to a healthier budget. That could mean a backyard DIY wedding just as much as a fly-me-to-Italy, or private island destination wedding; my clients want to splurge a bit on photography.

Client Testimonial

First of all, this woman is absolutely incredible! Not only was she such a pleasure to work with but, she is an all around amazing person. Jennifer shot our engagement and wedding and I could not be happier with our photos. I was initially pretty nervous about our engagement photos since I am just not comfortable in front of the camera. But, Jennifer made it so fun and totally calmed my nerves. It felt more like we were just hanging out with a friend than posing for a total stranger. On our wedding day, Jennifer was SO helpful when it came to everything and anything. She went above and beyond and I truly could not have imagined our day without her!

Client Testimonial

Where do I start? From the first moment we met Jenn in 2015, we knew we’d found someone special to capture our engagement and wedding photos! We had every intention of meeting with multiple photographers, but after meeting Jenn for coffee, we were sold. Jenn is warm, funny, charismatic, and has an uncanny ability to feel like someone you’ve known your whole life (which is incredibly important when considering who will be capturing such intimate moments). Jenn has a huge vault in her brain of amazing settings for photographs and knows how to capture the natural beauty of both you and your surroundings. When our wedding rolled around in early April 2016, her vault became incredibly useful as it was sunny, raining, AND SNOWING all on our big day. It didn’t affect her ability to capture the beauty and love in our day one bit – our photos were spectacular and we have received endless comments. She also pitched in with dress bustling, assisting with shoe swaps, and removing stray concealer from my dress before the ceremony. I was definitely not a high maintenance bride (the whole day for me was zen and filled with love and light), but having Jenn around to make sure things went smoothly made everything so much better. You will be blown away by everything about Jenn so do not hesitate to book her for your big day!

Client Testimonial

Jenn was the perfect photographer. First and foremost – the photos were simply stunning. You can see that for yourself by looking at her portfolio. My husband and I aren’t particularly photogenic, so we were a little worried we would pick a photographer based on a portfolio filled with naturally photogenic people, and then be disappointed in our own. But our photos truly were remarkable. What I think is more useful with this review, however, is to talk about how great Jenn is as someone who is at your wedding. The photos speak for themselves, but you will be hanging out with your photographer a lot on the big day and the photos don’t tell you what the photographer is like to hang out with. Jenn is wonderful. She is funny and easy to be around. Even my extremely camera-shy husband was comfortable as she snapped away. On the day of our wedding, my dress broke right before we were supposed to take first look photos. I was on the verge of losing my mind. My wedding coordinator was working on getting the dress fixed, while my mom and MOH were telling me it wasn’t a big deal. It was Jenn who talked me off the ledge and came up with the idea of getting a temporary fix for the dress while we waited for the seamstress so that I was able to go do first look photos and see my husband. It was exactly what I needed, and I credit Jenn with me not having smudgy mascara and bright red eyes in all of my photos from a hysterical crying fit. I really can’t say enough nice things about her, and we will definitely be calling Jenn for any future photography needs!
