Where have you been featured?
Wedding Chicks, Breakfast Television, It’s Love, Offbeat Bride, CTV News, Wedding Bells, Today’s Bride, Canadian Living, FLARE, Global Winnipeg, and more…
What types of weddings do you specialize in?
I can’t say that I specialize in a specific type of wedding. I find that all of my brides are very eclectic but they have one common thread; they all want to have a beautiful, unique and fun wedding. Whether that’s a rockabilly theme or an elegant fairytale, they all want to have something that is uniquely theirs.
Why do couples love working with you?
I like to think that I bring the fun back into planning. My goal is always to take the stress away, simplify things and, really make it fun for my clients. It shouldn’t be a stressful time it should be a fun, enjoyable and, memorable time of their lives. I try and make it that way in the way I structure our meetings, design work, and of course the wedding day. I get a lot of referral work from past brides so I’m always so flattered and humbled when new brides come to me knowing that their friends enjoyed working with me and that they too will be in good hands.
What do you love most about being a wedding planner?
The variation in what I do from day today. Believe it or not, I love sitting at my desk for eight hours working on weddings, getting paperwork done, and working on budget sheets. I also love those days where I’m on my feet for 12 hours setting up a wedding, doing rehearsals, ceremonies and full reception with lots of different angles and twist. I love the variety, I love the different types of clients I get to work with, and personalities. I love that each day is a new day and each day has its challenges, inspirations, and successes.
How did you get started?
I’ve been doing events for about eight years now. Before that, I got started very very young with going to church and helping my mom with different events. I found that I just really enjoyed the dynamics of working with people and putting together something that turned out so beautifully and that everyone really enjoyed. In my early 20s, I started to take it more seriously and really got into it in whatever way I could. I started with doing more work with large conferences, youth events, and then a creative events internship. I added to my growth in courses like the WPIC ( Wedding Planning Institute of Canada), WEI ( Wedding and Event Institute) and The University of Winnipeg in Public Relations and Marketing.
What budget range do you cater to?
We get couples with budgets from $ 10,000 all the way up to $ 150 ,000. For us it’s not really a matter of what their price point is but rather what we can do for them and what services we can offer. I love the range that we get and I love that any bride can get just what she needs from us.
What typically happens at the beginning of the process when someone contacts you?
The very first thing we do is have a consultation meeting. From there we get to know each other a little bit more and I explain to them the process of works with us and give them a quote for the services they’re looking for. If they decide they want to work with us, after signing a contract, we get started right away. If it’s Full Planning we get going on budget sheets and design, if it’s Day of Coordination we get the master itinerary going and then pick up work together close to the wedding.
If Amanda, from Amanda Douglas Events, wasn’t there for the rehearsal and the day of the wedding, I’m positive no one would have made it down the aisle. Her attention to detail and ability to make things run smoothly is amazing! With her there, we were able to enjoy our day instead of worrying about the little things.
Some individuals don’t see the value in an event planner, but that’s only because they haven’t worked with one. To truly understand the hard work, talent, and creativity that goes into planning an event, you should take the time to meet with Amanda Douglas. Not only will she win you over with her personality and knowledge, but she will help you better understand the time and energy it takes to make an event successful and fun. She’s been an absolute pleasure to work with and you owe it to yourself to meet with her and alleviate some of the stress of planning an event on your own.
