What types of weddings do you specialize in?
Initially, when I started Sweetheart Events I specialized in rustic outdoor weddings. Although I LOVE incorporating west coast and nature theme elements and still do rustic outdoor weddings, I found that my true calling was personalizing each wedding. My goal for every wedding is to tell a story in the details. I want my couples to look back at their wedding photos and remember the stories behind the colour palette we chose, the venue and the entertainment (for examples). Maybe the colours came from the first painting you bought together for your first home or the venue was where you first said I love you, every detail of your wedding deserves a story. With all this being said we specialize in meaningful and personalized weddings.
Another fun fact is we specialize in marriage proposal planning which is a great way to begin the personalized details from Before the Yes and incorporate that amazing moment into I Do.
Why do couples love working with you?
Definitely my personality! Time and time again I hear how my couples instantly feel a connection with me and that meeting with me is like meeting a friend. I always say that as planners we can talk about what makes us different but it truly comes down to our personalities. I will laugh with you, cry with you, and do many happy dances to celebrate with you!
As a team of four passionate planners, each couple will find their ultimate personality fit within the group. From the initial inquiry, I can usually tell which planner would fit best with that couple based on their personality and their overall style.
What do you love most about being a wedding planner?
There are so many reasons I love being a wedding planner but I think truly it comes down to working with incredible couples, hearing each individual love story, using elements of that and their personalities to incorporate it into the details and sharing that once in a lifetime day with them. Being surrounded by so much joy and emotion is incredible and I find myself not only as their planner but their friend. Planning a wedding can be overwhelming and stressful but sharing countless emails, texts and late-night phone calls you become so much more to that couple – you become a best friend and someone they truly trust. Regardless of the package they hire me for, a friendship is forged and I feel so honoured they chose me to bring their vision to life.
During the planning process, I love reminding my couples of why they are doing this and I challenge them to take a moment to reflect, take a breather from the wedding plans and go out and spend time together because it is so easy to get wrapped up in the planning. On the day my favourite moment would be the first look (it’s magical) and having those last few seconds with my bride before she walks down the aisle. It never gets old and it’s the highest compliment when guests come up to me saying that this wedding was the ultimate reflection of the bride and groom and their love story together.
How did you get started?
I have been fortunate to learn from incredible women while working with two highly respectful planning companies in the city. Two years ago I was given the opportunity to go out on my own and Sweetheart Events was born. It is a true gift to be able to build your dream every day and work with clients that excite you and challenge you to think outside the box for ways to incorporate their love story into the details of the wedding day.
What budget range do you cater to?
At Sweetheart Events, we work with all budgets to bring your vision to life. Together we will create a realistic budget, no matter what number we begin with, to match you with great vendors that will create your true-to-you wedding.
What typically happens at the beginning of the process when someone contacts you?
Huge happy dances and high fives! There are so many incredibly talented planners in the city and when a couple sends me an inquiry I cannot help but say thank you. I reply with a congratulations and a rundown of my services and asking them to join me for a coffee date (in person or over Skype as some of our clients don’t live here) to dive into the details. I remind them that it is a casual consultation and it really comes down to finding the ultimate personality fit. I feel the consultation is key to learning more about each other and learning what it is the couple truly needs in terms of planning. Not every couple is the same so no package should be. Although we do have three packages we start from we can customize a package that fits the couple perfectly. At that point, if I am the planner for them we sign on the dotted line, they take their bridal binder home (my gift to them) and we begin!
We chose Stephanie over other wedding planners that I had initially contacted as right from the very first email we could tell that she actually read our message and was genuinely interested in what we had to say. She was amazing from day one! I was in school so we were nervous we wouldn’t be able to plan the wedding we wanted but Stephanie made sure we stayed on track and made the whole process fun and easy. From our very first meeting with her, she made us feel like we’ve known her for years and made us comfortable throughout the whole planning process. She always asked the right questions and made us feel confident when choosing our vendors. Our wedding day was amazing and we owe it all to Sweetheart events! We are so glad we used a wedding planner and we highly recommend Stephanie and her amazing team 🙂

After a month or so of Pinteresting everything wedding-related in sight, my fiancée – now husband – suggested the idea of hiring a Wedding Planner. My initial thought – I don’t need J-Lo to plan my wedding! I’m a self-sufficient do-it-yourselfer why would I need to hire a planner? But that all changed when we met Stephanie for a casual coffee in downtown Vancouver. I lost track of time as it felt like we were old friends catching up, & all my questions/concerns/neurosis that Pinterest couldn’t address all poured out. I was converted, I needed this Wedding Planner!
Our wedding was set in a beautiful sprawling vineyard in the Okanagan, our family & friends had flown in from across the globe, & the weather leading up to the day was perfect. Until…the morning of the wedding – the heavens opened up & hail & wind whipped through the town. Not to worry, Stephanie had something up her sleeve, a plan B., In all honesty, I didn’t even worry about it, my bridal party & I just focused on sipping champagne, jumping on beds, eating strawberries – all the important things! The past months of planning had assured me Stephanie would make sure I was happy no matter what was thrown our way. Luckily for us, the weather flipped back to blue skies & sunshine in time for the outdoor ceremony so plan B was not needed, but what struck me was how relaxed I felt regardless of any kind of commotion going on around me.
It was like having your own little fairy godmother, looking out for you, making sure you get to savor every lovely moment of the wedding experience while she takes care of everything else. The wedding day goes by so quickly, & for us, it was paramount that we made the most of our time with our family & friends from abroad as we don’t often have the opportunity to all be together in the one place. She allowed us, and our family & friends the freedom to be truly present for each precious moment and that is why I am a Wedding Planner convert 🙂
